Multiple Random Numbers

A list of numbers at once, with or without repeats.

Options

Generating a list is not the same as generating one value repeatedly: with no-repeats on, this is a sample, and the probability of each remaining value changes after every draw. That is the correct behaviour for seat allocation, sampling for review, and prize draws.

The list can be copied as one value per line or downloaded as a text file, which is usually faster than copying from the screen into a spreadsheet.

How to use it

  1. Set the range and the count.
  2. Choose whether repeats are allowed.
  3. Copy the list, or download it as .txt.

When to allow repeats

Allow repeats when each draw is an independent event — simulating dice, generating test data, picking a random ID. Disallow them when the list represents a set that shrinks as items are chosen — winners, seats, files to review.

There is a ceiling worth knowing: you cannot draw 200 unique values from a range of 100. The tool caps the output at the range size rather than looping forever.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I ask for more unique values than the range allows?

The list stops at the range size, which is every possible value in random order. That is equivalent to shuffling the range.

Can I sort the output?

Not here — sorting would destroy the draw order, which is information you often need. Copy into a spreadsheet and sort there.

Is the list suitable for sampling?

Yes, with no-repeats on: that is simple random sampling without replacement, the standard method for picking a subset.
