QR Code Scanner for Android
For Android devices where installing another app is not an option.
Camera access is requested only when you press the button. Frames are decoded on this device and discarded.
Android's built-in camera and Quick Settings tile already decode QR codes, so the reason to use a browser page is specific: the built-in scanner does not read codes from images, and it is not available on every device or ROM.
This page covers both — live camera scanning, plus a photo upload path for codes you already have as an image, which the system scanner cannot help with at all.
How to use it
- Open the page in Chrome on Android.
- Tap open camera and allow the permission, or tap upload to pick a photo.
- The first result appears automatically; the camera stops on success.
Android specifics worth knowing
Camera access requires HTTPS — on a plain HTTP page the API is simply absent. Chrome on Android also needs a user gesture before the permission prompt can appear, which is why there is a button rather than an automatic start.
Battery and heat: continuous decoding at full frame rate warms the device quickly. This page throttles to about eight frames per second and downscales frames, which roughly halves the power draw compared with decoding every frame at full resolution.

Frequently asked questions
Can I scan a QR code from a photo on Android?
Yes — that is the main reason to use this page instead of the system camera. Tap upload and pick the image from your gallery.
Why is the camera permission not appearing?
Either the page is not on HTTPS, or a previous denial was remembered. Check the site settings in Chrome's address bar menu.
Does it work in Samsung Internet and Firefox?
Yes. Firefox and Samsung Internet do not expose BarcodeDetector, so the bundled JavaScript decoder is used instead — the same page, no install, no extension.
