QR Code Scanner Camera
Live camera scanning, right in the page.
Camera access is requested only when you press the button. Frames are decoded on this device and discarded.
Live scanning means the page reads frames continuously and decodes the first one that works — no shutter button, no photo to review. The rear camera is requested by default on phones, since that is the one pointed at the code.
The camera stream stops the moment a code is decoded, and again when you leave the page. That detail matters: a page that keeps the camera indicator on after you are done is a privacy problem, not a convenience.
How to use it
- Press open camera and accept the permission prompt.
- Fill the frame with the code — the overlay shows the target area.
- Decoding is automatic; the camera stops once a result appears.
Permission behaviour you should know about
Browsers only allow a camera permission prompt in response to a user gesture, which is why there is a button rather than an automatic request on load. If the prompt is dismissed or denied, the browser remembers that decision for the site and will not ask again — the fix is in the site settings, not on the page.
Camera access also requires a secure context. On plain HTTP the API is unavailable entirely, and the page says so rather than failing silently. This is why the tool only works over HTTPS or on localhost.

Frequently asked questions
How do I fix a denied camera permission?
Open the site settings from the icon at the left of the address bar, set Camera to allow, then reload. A dismissed prompt is remembered as a denial, so the page cannot re-ask on its own.
Why does it say camera unavailable?
Either another application is holding the camera, the device has none, or the page is not on HTTPS. The page distinguishes these cases in the message and offers image upload in all of them.
Does the camera stay on after scanning?
No. The stream is stopped as soon as a code is decoded, and also when the tab is hidden or closed.
