QR Code Scanner for iPhone
Safari-compatible scanning, including codes stored as photos.
Camera access is requested only when you press the button. Frames are decoded on this device and discarded.
The iPhone's Camera app decodes QR codes without any help, and iOS puts a scanner in Control Centre too. What neither does is read a code out of an existing photo — which is the gap this page fills, and the reason it defaults to the image path on iOS.
Camera scanning works here as well, but Safari does not expose the native barcode API, so the page uses its bundled JavaScript decoder. There is nothing extra to download beyond the page itself.
How to use it
- To read a saved photo: tap upload and choose the image from Photos.
- To scan live: tap open camera and allow access when Safari asks.
- Copy the result — the share sheet is not needed.
Safari and the decoder question
Safari's support for BarcodeDetector has changed across releases, so the page does not guess from the user agent — it asks whether the API exists and whether it lists qr_code among its formats. If either check fails, the bundled JavaScript decoder is used instead.
That capability check is the only reliable approach. User-agent sniffing breaks whenever Apple ships a change, and it is the usual cause of a scanner that works on one iPhone and not another.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to install a QR app on iPhone?
No. The Camera app scans QR codes natively. Use this page when the code is an image rather than something you can point the camera at.
Why is scanning slower on iPhone?
Safari does not expose the native barcode API, so the page falls back to a bundled JavaScript decoder. It adds about 40 KB to the page instead of the megabyte a WebAssembly build would need.
Can I paste a screenshot on iPhone?
Yes — copy the screenshot from Photos, then long-press in the page and paste. The paste handler reads image data from the clipboard.
